Jesus Is the SAME Yesterday & TODAY & Forever
All That He Did 2,000 Years Ago He’ll Do for You Today

Summary:  The amazing things that Jesus did on earth are recorded in the New Testament. The bible tells us that He is exactly the same now as He was in the pages of the Gospels. All that Jesus did for people in the first century, He is able and willing to do for you today!

Hebrews 13:8
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Acts 1:11  “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

As we read the pages of the Gospels, we see Jesus Christ doing astounding things — healing the sick, cleansing lepers, rebuking and casting out demons, even raising the dead. By His words and His mighty works He led thousands to faith in Him. He also called and empowered His followers to go forth to preach and perform similar mighty works in His name (Mark 16:15-20).

Too many have fallen for the defeatist line of thinking that says, “Well, those were special days and we shouldn’t expect to see such things in our time.” However, that is incorrect. In fact, as we just read in Hebrews 13:8, Jesus never changes! The Scripture guarantees us that Jesus is “the same yesterday and today and forever.” And as the angels said to the onlookers as Jesus ascended back to heaven (Acts 1:11), “This same Jesus … will come back…” Let’s look at what it means for us to serve “this same Jesus,” who is the same in our time as He was on earth 2,000 years ago.

1. Jesus Saves Today

1 Timothy 1:15  …Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners

• While on earth Jesus led thousands from unbelief to faith in Him as the Son of God. He is still doing that today through His servants on earth, through men and women, boys and girls, who speak of Him and His salvation to others.

• You might be saying, “But these are hard times and people seem to be very resistant to the Gospel.” In reply I say, don’t underestimate the mighty power of the Gospel. For example, just this month (November 2014) evangelist Reinhard Bonnke ministered for a week in Kumasi, Ghana, and saw more than 580,000 Ghanaians make decisions to follow Jesus Christ. Over a half million saved in one week! And every one of them would happily assure you that Jesus saves today!

2. Jesus Heals Today

Matthew 8:16  When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick.

• Jesus healed the multitudes as recorded in the Gospels, including the blind, the deaf, the crippled, and those with severe pain (Matthew 4:24).

Jesus still heals today! My wife of 38 years has gone on to heaven. In the first six years of our marriage, she remained childless due to a diagnosed infertility condition. Then the Lord graciously and miraculously healed her, and she bore us four children, who are now all adults and have in turn provided me with 8 grandchildren to date. My family is living proof that the Lord is still a Healer in the 21st century. “This same Jesus” who healed the multitudes two millennia ago continues to heal individuals and multitudes today.

3. Jesus Baptizes with the Holy Spirit Today

Matthew 3:11  “I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He [Jesus] will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” [similar statements in Mark 1:8, Luke 3:16, and John 1:33]

Acts 1:5; 2:1, 4  For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit… [2:1] When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place… [4] All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

• The mighty baptism with the Spirit is a gift given to us by Jesus. In all four Gospels John the Baptist certified that it is Jesus who baptizes us with the Holy Spirit. And He is the same today! Hundreds of millions of believers around the world today have been filled with the Spirit of God, have received their personal Pentecost, their “power from on high” (Luke 24:49) to go forth and be effective witnesses to Jesus Christ.

• And today, just as at that first Acts 2 Pentecost, those who receive the baptism with the Spirit experience the supernatural blessing of speaking in tongues as the evidence of the Spirit’s infilling. As "all of them" spoke in tongues, so today all who receive the baptism with the Spirit speak in tongues. The Bible pattern hasn't changed.

4. Jesus Delivers Those That Are Bound Today

Luke 4:18, KJV  [Jesus said,] The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.

• Deliverance! Similar words are used in various other translations — “release … freedom … liberty … be freed.” As Jesus walked this earth 20 centuries ago, He liberated people from bondages, from afflictions, and even from demon possession.

• “This same Jesus” is doing these things today. Testimonies abound of people coming to Him for deliverance from habits, from addictions, from mental and emotional bondages, and more. Today, just as surely as in the first century, “if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36). Do you need to be delivered from some bondage in your life? Come in confident faith to “this same Jesus,” ask Him to free you, and expect the same result He spoke to the crippled lady, “Woman, you are set free from your infirmity” (Luke 13:12).

5. Jesus Is Still Interceding for You Today

Hebrews 7:25, NASB  Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.

• While on earth, Jesus interceded in prayer to God the Father for His followers (Luke 22:32).

• In addition to praying for His followers back then (John 17:1, 9), Jesus also prayed for future believers (John 17:20), and that includes you!

• Remember that, whether it be for forgiveness or any other need, “we have an advocate with the Father — Jesus Christ, the Righteous One” (1 John 2:1). Right at this moment, Jesus is seated at the right hand of God the Father in heaven. And He is attentive to and sympathetic to your needs (Hebrews 4:14-16). So you may confidently turn to Him to “receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need” (vs. 16).

6. Jesus Is Lord of All Today

Acts 10:36, KJV  Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all).

Matthew 28:18, Amplified Bible  All authority (all power of rule) in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.”

• Jesus is Lord over everything — over sin, over sickness, over death … you name it, He has full authority over it.

• There is no difficulty, no obstacle, no vice, no sin, no illness, no demonic harassment, that is outside Jesus’ power to overcome in your life. The “same Jesus” who overcame all these things and more on earth 20 centuries ago is able and willing to do the same in your life today. Remember, there is nothing that is beyond the control of Him Who is “Lord of all.” He had all authority two millennia ago, and He still has all authority in all situations today, because Jesus is the same yesterday and today and forever!

7. Jesus Is Going to Come to Earth a Second Time

Acts 1:11  “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

• A little over 2,000 years ago Jesus came from heaven to earth, was born of a virgin, grew up and ministered to multitudes, healed the sick, raised the dead, cleansed the lepers, and much more. Then He died on a cross to bear our sins and rose again from the dead, so that we might be saved through repentance and faith in Him.

• Sometime yet ahead, the bible promises that “this same Jesus” will come again a second time to earth to resurrect and gather to Himself all the faithful redeemed from all ages.

• If you haven’t already done so, turn your heart and your life over to Jesus Christ. Receive the salvation that He died to provide for you. Accept Him, love Him, serve Him — you will be eternally happy that you did!
