A Supernatural Move of God & Scriptures to Prepare Us for It

In Short

A supernatural move of God does not call Christians merely to watch from the sidelines. God desires willing believers who will say, “Here am I. Send me!” We must overcome personal prejudices, listen carefully to Jesus’ direction, eagerly desire the gifts of the Holy Spirit, pray specifically for people to be saved, and remain ready to share God’s Word. When God’s people prepare themselves in these ways, they are ready to move with Him in reaching souls and ministering in supernatural power.

Key Takeaways

• Be willing to participate personally in what God is doing, rather than remaining a spectator.
• Do not allow racial, cultural, social, or personal prejudices to hinder God’s purposes.
• Listen to Jesus, because He knows where the spiritually hungry and receptive people are.
• Eagerly desire the gifts of the Holy Spirit so your ministry depends upon God's power rather than merely human ability.
• Pray specifically and persistently for people to be saved, naming them before God.
• Be prepared to share the Word of God whenever an opportunity arises.

Introduction: Get Ready to Move with God!

Summary: We all desire a supernatural move of God, with an abundance of divine healings, miracles, supernatural signs, and other powerful gifts of the Holy Spirit. Many are saying they sense a stirring — a sensing that God is preparing to move through us. Let’s look at that today: getting READY to move with God.

Determine to Be Involved in the Lord's Work

Isaiah 6:1, 8  In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple.... [8] Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “HERE AM I. SEND ME!”

•• Be like Isaiah: “Here am I, Lord, send me!”
• Purpose to be in the arena, not the grandstand. In order to participate in a supernatural move of God, we need to be willing to move with God.

• Press for the revelation of the Lord’s heart for your ministry“I saw the Lord ... ‘Send ME!’ ”

Don't Let Any Prejudices of Yours Stand in the Way of God's Plans

Acts 11:2-5a, 15-18  So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcised believers criticized him [3] and said, “You went into the house of uncircumcised men and ate with them.” ... [5a] “I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision.... [15] As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came on them as he had come on us at the beginning.... [17] So if God gave them the same gift as he gave us, who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to think that I could oppose God?” [18] When they heard this, they had no further objections and praised God, saying, “So then, God has granted even the Gentiles repentance unto life.”

•• Kill your prejudices. We need to erase our blackboard and give the Lord a blank slate.
• God may bring across your path people of different nationalities, races, and lifestyles.

• We may need to have “no further objections.”

Be Attentive to the Lord's Leading into the Harvest

John 21:3-6  [3]...that night they caught nothing.... [5] He called out to them, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?” “No,” they answered. [6] He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

•• These were trained, professional fishermen. But they had the good sense to listen to Jesus: Cast your nets over there.”
HE knows where the catchable fish ARE.

HE knows when they’re BITING.

HE knows far more than trained professionals!

• In sum, Jesus knows where the hungry, winnable souls are.

Desire the Holy Spirit's Gifts for the Work of God's Ministry

1 Corinthians 14:1, 24-25  Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy.... [24] But if an unbeliever or someone who does not understand comes in while everybody is prophesying, he will be convinced by all that he is a sinner and will be judged by all, [25] and the secrets of his heart will be laid bare. So he will fall down and worship God, exclaiming, “God is really among you!”

•• Eagerly desire spiritual gifts — we’ll need them if it’s to be God moving and not just man.
• Even our best natural abilities are often unimpressive to the world.

God's supernatural power is impressive. Genuine, anointed, Holy Ghost ministry in the supernatural realm touches people deeply.

Pray for the Salvation of Souls (the Apostle Paul Did)

Romans 10:1  Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved.

•• Focused prayer for souls
• Paul named the object of his prayer: the salvation of his fellow Israelites.

NAME to God those you are praying for.

Psalm 2:8, KJV  ASK of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance...

Be Ever Ready to Share God's Word

Psalm 51:13, KJV  Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.

•• Be ready to share the WORD — not just preaching, but also Bible teaching can be evangelistic.
• I co-taught a winter-long Bible study in Palmer, Alaska in the mid-1970s, and dozens were saved during the course of those Bible teachings.

Concluding Summary: How to Prepare for a Move of God

Pastor Jim’s Perspective

In the mid-1970s, I co-taught a winter Bible study in Palmer, Alaska. It was not presented as a series of conventional evangelistic services. We simply taught the Word of God faithfully. During those months, dozens of people came to faith in Jesus, even though we did not conclude the Bible studies with a formal invitation.

That experience impressed upon me that evangelism is not limited to preaching from a pulpit or giving a brief gospel appeal. Spirit-anointed Bible teaching can bring sinners face-to-face with the truth of God and lead them to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. We should therefore remain ready to teach and share God’s Word wherever the Lord opens a door.

Frequently Asked Questions About a Supernatural Move of God

What does the Bible say about a supernatural move of God?

The Bible shows that God works supernaturally through willing believers who obey Him, listen to His voice, desire the gifts of the Holy Spirit, pray faithfully, and boldly share His Word. Throughout Scripture, God's power is displayed through signs, wonders, miracles, and transformed lives.

How can Christians prepare for a move of God?

Believers prepare by surrendering themselves to God's will, putting aside personal prejudices, seeking the Holy Spirit's guidance, praying earnestly for souls to be saved, eagerly desiring spiritual gifts, and remaining ready to share the gospel whenever opportunities arise.

Does God still perform miracles and supernatural works today?

Yes. The Bible presents God as unchanging, and many Christians continue to testify that He heals, performs miracles, answers prayer, and works through the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Scripture encourages believers to seek God's power while remaining firmly grounded in His Word.

Why are the gifts of the Holy Spirit important in ministry?

The gifts of the Holy Spirit enable believers to minister with God's wisdom and power rather than relying only on natural ability. They help reveal God's presence, strengthen Christians, and point unbelievers to Jesus Christ.
