Transgender and Gay Marriage | Jesus Gave Guidance

Summary:  Jesus Christ made a definitive statement, in one sentence, that sharply clarifies His position on both gender identification and gay marriage.

Billions of people worldwide believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. In addition, there are many others who do not believe that specifically, but who do have great respect for the words of Jesus Christ. For all those people, and for others just interested in hearing Christ's words on these topics, I quote a simple, clear statement by Jesus that brings great clarity to today's raging debate on the issues of transgenderism and same-sex marriage.

Matthew 19:4-5, NASB  "Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'?"

Some Pharisees (vs. 3) had tried to test Jesus with a question about divorce in the Bible. Jesus answered by referring to God's creation and His institution of marriage, where He "made them male and female...a man...[and] his wife."

The Transgender Debate

Jesus dealt clearly with the gender identity issue. He told them that God the Creator "made them male and female." Gender identity has always been God's prerogative. In every instance He makes a person one or the other, male or female. Men and women, Jesus made it clear, do not choose to be male or female. No, but rather God "makes" us male or female. The Creator makes us one or the other. And God hasn't changed either His mind or the pattern He established from the beginning.

God says of Himself in the Scriptures, "I am the Lord, I do not change" (Malachi 3:6, NKJV) and "He never changes" (James 1:17, NLT). The God who created Adam and Eve as male and female (Genesis 1:27) is the same unchanging God who makes us male and female today. Gender identity is God's choice and is therefore not alterable by mankind.

The Gay Marriage Debate

In His reply to the Pharisees, Jesus said that God had "made them male and female ... a man ...[and] his wife."

From the biblical perspective of who rules the universe, gay marriage (same-sex marriage) is not a "human rights" issue, as is claimed by the "LGBTQ" community. It is a violation of God's right to rule His creation and to establish marriage as uniquely between "male and female, a man and his wife." For the billions of people worldwide who hold Jesus' teachings to be authoritative, He settled the issue. God, Jesus said, established marriage to be between a man and a woman, "a man and his wife." In the entirety of Scripture no alternative forms of marriage are offered or approved.

In Sum, from God's Perspective (per Jesus' words)

Transgender - from the beginning God has "made them male and female."

Gay Marriage - from the beginning God established marriage to be between "male and female...a man...[and] his wife."
