God-Centered Thoughts for the Coming Mid-Term Elections

Summary:  For registered USA voters in the upcoming mid-term elections, I offer a few God- and Bible-centered thoughts for your consideration. “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it” (Psalm 24:1). Therefore, we should be very careful to cast our votes in favor of candidates and ballot measures that line up most closely with God’s will as revealed in the Scriptures of God’s Word, the Bible. Three voting issues that have great potential to further God’s revealed will are: pro-life, pro-church, and pro-family.

Two personal notes: (1) I am a registered nonaffiliated voter. I am encouraging votes for God- and Bible-honoring candidates and ballot initiatives, not for political parties; and (2) I am not a 501(c)(3) organization and am not subject to its limitations. I am a private citizen exercising my constitutional right to the free exercise and expression of my deeply-held religious beliefs. Please strongly consider God’s Scripturally-revealed positions as you prepare to cast your votes. Thank you!

Pro-Life

It is God — not man or legislatures or courts — who has the right to give life and to determine life’s beginning and end. Tragically, and in defiance of God’s sanctifying of life, for more than 40 years in America, millions of innocent, living, preborn children have been (legally but immorally) executed in the womb. I offer for your biblical voting consideration three articles I have written on this subject:

Fetus in Utero or Unborn Baby? 'Fetal Tissue' or Unborn Child?

Pro-Family

In its very first chapter the Bible records God creating man and woman. He brought them together and established and sanctified marriage. God’s intended offspring from that husband-wife union was to be children, thereby defining the nuclear family as a father and a mother, plus children that may be born to them.

Genesis 1:1, 27-28; 2:22, 24  In the beginning God created … [27] male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth…” [2:22, elaborating on chapter 1] the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man … [24] That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.

In direct violation of God’s order in the Bible’s opening verses, American legislatures and courts have redefined marriage and have even gone so far as to redefine gender as personal choice (rather than God’s direct determination). Divorce has become commonplace and broadly accepted, far beyond the limited exceptions God gives in His Word. “Family” has been redefined in modern culture to the point where it becomes a mockery of traditional, biblical values. Below is an article I have written on two major assaults against God’s clear definitions:

Pro-Church

The church is greatly loved by Jesus — “Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her” (Ephesians 5:25). It is His church and He is deeply protective of it — “I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18, KJV).

I’m old enough to remember how, in public junior high school, we opened the school day with both the Lord’s Prayer and the pledge of allegiance. In many public school classrooms the Ten Commandments were prominently displayed. For more than a century and a half of this great nation, this was understood to be constitutionally permitted. In the last half century, liberal legislatures and courts have attacked the Bible, school prayer, and numerous other rights of Christians. Courts have routinely ignored the clear reading of the Constitution’s First Amendment, where the restriction is placed solely upon the Congress not to establish religion or prevent its free exercise. Nothing in the First Amendment restricts believers from expressing their faith.

Sad to say, we've come a long way from the inspiring words of the first written governing document in America's colonial history. Written and signed in Plymouth Harbor in 1620, the Mayflower Compact declared that those Pilgrims had "undertaken, for the glory of God, and advancement of the Christian faith" their voyage to plant a colony in what much later became the USA.

In Sum: An Appeal

God is clearly pro-life, pro-family, and pro-church. These are not the only issues at stake in the coming mid-term elections. But they are three big ones! God is the author and giver of life. God established and treasures family as He created and defined it. And God so deeply loves His Church that He sent His Son Jesus to die and be raised again to life to redeem mankind from our sins.

In a word, God is pro-life, pro-family, and pro-church. Please, I implore you, look past your party affiliation, look past the nonstop political rhetoric, and look to the Lord and His Word. Vote for candidates and ballot measures that are consistent with the clearly revealed will of God Almighty. You will be blessed, and our nation will be blessed.

A final appeal: I am writing this with only two weeks remaining until the USA’s midterm election. If this article speaks to your heart, please consider immediately sharing it to help influence others to embrace candidates and measures that are consistent with the Lord’s positions (2020 update).
